Christmas parade raises more than £1,500 for charity

The event, organised by George Dillon Only A Dream Away CIC, took place on Sunday, December 15.

The parade, named ‘Dingle and His Trusty Deere Save Christmas,’ started at The Compass Inn in Winsor Road, Totton.

It then proceeded through Cadnam, Bartley, Netley Marsh, Totton and Calmore.

The parade featured tractors and agricultural vehicles, all beautifully decorated with fairy lights and festive decorations, and was in honour of George Dillon who died in a crash near Romsey and was a student at Sparsholt College.

The event was not primarily aimed at raising funds but at spreading Christmas cheer and thanking the local community for their support.

However, the parade managed to raise £1,504.74.

George’s mother Angela said: “It was a fantastic evening with lots of tractors and agricultural vehicles joining our parade, all beautifully lit with fairy lights and decorations.

“This event was never about raising lots of money, as we have already been blessed with some truly amazing donations this past year, we just wanted to spread a little Christmas cheer and thank our local community and neighbours for all their support.

“It was felt that if we managed to raise a few pounds in the process this would be so lovely but was certainly not expected at all.

“Well, we most definitely raised a lot more than a few pounds, we raised a staggering £1,504.74.”

Angela extended her gratitude to all the participants and spectators (Image: Angela Dillon) The parade also featured Santa Claus, elves and other festive characters.

Angela extended her gratitude to all the participants and spectators of the parade.

She said: “To all the tractors and farming vehicles that took time out of their weekend to join our parade, we can’t thank you enough.

“We never expected anything like this. I know how costly it is to run these tractors and you all paid out of your own pockets and even decorated your tractors to give our community something truly special to watch.

“We were honoured that you wanted to take part.”

She continued: “To all of you that came out to watch and patiently waited in the cold. We truly hope you enjoyed our parade. You really did capture the Christmas spirit.”

Angela added: “George absolutely loved Christmas so what a wonderful way to end the year and spread a little magic.”
