Cheapest and most expensive Winchester areas to buy a home

Anyone hoping to buy a home for less than half a million pounds will be short for choice in Winchester district, according to the latest stats.

A new report from Online Marketing Surgery, which used property data from the Office for National Statistics, looked at the median house prices for every neighbourhood in all local authorities.

The cheapest neighbourhood in the Winchester area was Bishop’s Waltham and Waltham Chase,  with the average house costing just over £350,000 as of March 2024.

By living further from the city, buyers saved themselves an average of £200,000. 

Also at the cheaper end of the scale were Wickham (£368,375) and Stanmore, the latter much closer to the city centre and costing on average £355,000 for a home. 

Properties in New Alresford, Colden Common, Hursley, Winchester West and Winchester Central all cost between £500,000 and £600,000 on average. 

Winchester North and Sparsholt, Swanmore, West Meon and Itchen Abbas came up top as the most expensive areas – costing buyers more than £600,000. 

At the top of the list, properties in Springvale and Itchen Abbas cost an average of £665,625 in March 2024.
