Cheap pints at Guildhall and Linen Exchange in Dunfermline

The Guildhall and Linen Exchange, which is a Wetherspoon’s pub on the city’s High Street, is reducing the price of a range of drinks and meals from Friday January 3 to Thursday January 16.

A pint of Worthington’s beer will only cost £1.29, less than a three-minute train journey between Dunfermline’s two railway stations. The sale also includes a pint of Belhaven for £1.49.

Pub manager Michele Park said: “Department stores and shops hold their sales in January, so it is the perfect time to have a sale in the pub too.

“The range of drinks and food on sale in the pub is aimed at suiting a wide variety of tastes. This year we have included our biggest selection of low and non-alcoholic drinks.

“I believe that the January sale will prove popular with our customers. As always, staff at the pub will serve customers responsibly.”

The sale comes a few months after Greene King was criticised for lowering the price of a pint of Tennent’s to £2, in a move that was described as “irresponsible” by independent publicans such as those in charge at the Elizabethan, which struggled to better the offer by 1p.

Concerns were raised that dramatic price offers would pull customers away from struggling local pubs, many of which are being forced to raise prices due to the cost of living crisis and increasing energy bills.
