Chalmers Road is a purpose-built bungalow close to Ayr town centre providing short break services for up to four adults with learning disabilities.
The service is commissioned by South Ayrshire Council and currently accommodates 21 people.
The length and frequency of each stay are determined by the needs of those using the service and range from overnight to several weeks.
The Care Inspectorate visited for an unannounced inspection between January 7 and 8 this year.
The service was rated ‘very good’ for its staff team, setting, planning of care and support, and support of people’s wellbeing.
It was also rated ‘good’ for leadership, with one area for improvement set by inspectors.
The report stated: “People received reliable and consistent support from a familiar staff team with whom they had positive, trusting and caring relationships.
“People experienced support that promoted their identity, independence and choice, from a kind, caring and competent staff group.
“Family members felt involved and well informed, telling us they were very satisfied with the standard of care and support provided.
“There were safe systems in place to keep the environment clean and safely maintained.”
Officials suggested that the service should introduce action planning to be able to track issues and make sure actions are reviewed.
They added: “To ensure that people experience consistently good outcomes, and that quality assurance and improvement is well led.
“Managers should continue to evaluate and monitor service provision which informs the improvement and development of the service.”
Billy McClean is head of community health and care services at the South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership.
He said: “In South Ayrshire we aim to provide the best services possible to our community with a focus on continuously improving what we do.
“The team at Chalmers Road work exceptionally hard to create a welcoming and supportive environment and it is great to see that their work has been recognised through their most recent inspection.
“I would like to thank all the team for all they do and for the support of those who utilise the service at Chalmers Road.”
