Chaddesley Woods: Dumped rabbits nursed back to full health

Dozens of domestic rabbits were abandoned in Chaddesley Woods in November, with some found dead and others in a poor state.

Greatfield Small Animal Rescue in Kidderminster, run by Lyndsey Hill from her home, took in four rabbits, Dave, Marco, Midnight and Trish, that have now made a full recovery.

Ms Hill said some of the rabbits found had chunks missing from their ears and had eyelids missing.

She said: “They were really badly scarred from how they had been kept. They were in shock.

“When they arrived here they didn’t really move around like rabbits should”.

“It took about two weeks for their personalities to come out. They are acting like real bunnies now.

“It’s never an easy feat doing this – you don’t know what you’re taking on.

“The outcome of it has made it worthwhile in the end”.

The RSPCA  launched an investigation after more than eighty rabbits were found cruelly dumped in the woods. Mystery surrounds how the number of bunnies came to be abandoned.

Kind-hearted local residents began trying to save the rabbits along with animal rescue volunteers and the RSPCA. Dozens were found dead, but others running around the woods were rescued by local animal groups.

Lucky Bunny and Friends Rescue, an animal sanctuary based in Gornal Wood, took in 56 of the rabbits discovered and said they were all “in a bad way”.

We previously reported how several of the abandoned rabbits rescued by the animal sanctuary were on the mend after being taken to be vaccinated, spayed and neutered at veterinary practices.
