Caravan set on fire in Basingstoke on Christmas Day

The vehicles caught on fire in Goodman Close shortly after 3am on Wednesday, December 25, Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed.

The police force confirmed they were reviewing CCTV and speaking to residents as part of enquiries to establish the cause of the fire.

Crews from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the fire which spread to a nearby fence. Firefighters extinguished the blaze using hose reel jets. 

A spokesperson for HIWFRS said: “Two crews from Basingstoke were alerted to a fire involving a caravan and a van on Goodman Close shortly after 3am on Christmas Day.

“The fire which spread to a nearby fence was extinguished by firefighters in breathing apparatus using hose reel jets.

“HIWFRS left the scene shortly after 4am.”

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary added: “Officers are investigating the exact cause of a fire in Goodman Close, which happened around 3.30am on December 25.

“A caravan and parked van were damaged by the fire.

“As part of our enquiries, officers have reviewed CCTV and spoken to people living in the road.”
