A sinkhole emerged on Palace Road, Bromley, several weeks before Christmas, leading Bromley Council to send contractors to fix the issue.
However, one resident believes little progress has been made, leaving locals frustrated.
The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the News Shopper: “Seven weeks ago, a sinkhole appeared outside the Anglesey Arms.
“Everybody was wondering what was going on, and we found out that there was a massive problem because the sinkhole was five metres deep.
“They’ve shut the road by The Crown and Achor, which is off Park Road that leads into Palace Road, where we all live.
“And the road has been closed except for access, and so they’ve taken out seven parking spaces on our side where they’ve excavated the sinkhole.”
Bromley Council placed barriers around the middle of Palace Road, where there is restricted parking on both sides.
She added: “The problem with our road is that we pay a residence permit of £80 a year, and it’s very unfair what they’ve done to us because people can’t park on our road from 12pm to 2pm.
“So, you get loads of people parking from Bromley at 9am, but none of us can park our cars anywhere, so parking has become a huge problem for all of us.”
She admitted that Bromley Council will refund residents in seven weeks for their residents’ permit since “we can’t park in our own road”.
But, parking isn’t the only issue for residents of Palace Road.
She explained: “Over the last few weeks, vans turn up with two men in each one, and they just sit there in their van in plain sight of all of us all day.
“And the reason they’re doing that, I presume, is so they get paid, but they’re not doing anything.”
Palace Road residents were reportedly told that the operation to fix the sinkhole would kick off on January 17, but, according to the resident, this doesn’t appear to be true.
She added: “I left this morning to go out at 11am, and there was one van there with two men just sitting in there.
“They were asleep or on their phones, but it’s disgusting.
“Why are we all paying for this when they’re not doing anything?”
The woman said that her neighbour contacted Bromley Council to complain about the restrictions on the parking “because it’s just not fair”.
She said that Bromley Council wardens are still being dispatched when half of the residents can’t park anyway.
“The whole situation is absolutely outrageous,” she said.
The resident claims that the communication from Bromley Council was poor, with just one letter apologising for the upcoming inconvenience.
Councillor Nicholas Bennett, Executive Councillor for Transport, Highways and Road Safety said: “This void has been caused by a leaking sewer, which Thames Water are aware of and responsible for repairing.
“When the cause of the void was established prior to Christmas, Thames Water took over the responsibility for the work going forward and updates to local residents as needed.
“Living nearby I appreciate the problems caused and the council is pressing Thames Water to expedite the repair.”
The council also confirmed that works will be completed by the end of January, although further damage to the sewer has been discovered.
We have contacted Thames Water for a comment.
