Barca-Leeds Young People’s Voice and Influence Group ran their first fundraiser this winter.
The ‘Christmas Raffle’ successfully raised £981 with proceeds going towards making winter care packages for people experiencing homelessness.
After noticing an increase in the number of people living on the streets in their local area and in the centre of Leeds, the group of 12 to 17 year old’s ‘wanted to do something positive for their community in West Leeds’.
With support from Barca’s youth workers they created a raffle with donated prizes and set out promoting it in local venues and community spaces.
Barca’s Housing Navigators team, who work with individuals that have experienced homelessness or housing issues, are supporting the development of the care packages with suggestions of useful items to include.
They are also meeting with the young people to share how they support rough sleepers and how best to distribute the care packages to those in need.
