The day, observed annually on January 27, is a time to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, as well as the millions more who were victims of Nazi persecution and other genocides.
The date marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.
This year’s theme is ‘For a Better Future’.
Councillor Chris Smith, the council’s presiding member and champion for equality, said: “As we approach Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27, we recognise the importance of this year’s theme ‘For a Better Future’.
“This theme encourages us all to look forward with hope and a shared commitment to creating a more compassionate, inclusive, and just world.
“By remembering the past, we can learn valuable lessons to help build a future where hate, prejudice, and discrimination have no place.”
The council will honour Holocaust survivor Eva Clarke, create a reflection space, share the story of Holocaust survivor Harry Spiro, and illuminate the General Offices in purple on January 27.
Tredegar Town Council will also join the commemoration, illuminating Tredegar Town Clock in purple and white and holding a Holocaust Memorial Vigil at 8pm.
