Jade Davies, aged 25, of Woodlands Park Road, Birmingham, appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court today (Friday, July 17) after pleading guilty to being the person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury.
She has also been sentenced to a 20-day rehabilitation order, and eighty hours of unpaid work.
A destruction order has been made for the dog, which is a Pit bull, a breed which is banned in the UK.
In March 2024, Davies was at a house in Isherwoods Way, Wem, Shropshire with the dog, when it bit a West Mercia Police officer on the forearm and leg.
The officer sustained a deep laceration but has since made a full recovery.
PC Jack Harper said: “Any incident where a person is injured by a dangerous dog is one too many. We have a responsibility to protect the public and safeguard our communities.
“This case exemplifies the harm that can be caused, and how by working with partners offenders can be brought to justice.
“We continue to work closely with various partners on educating people on the risks posed by some dogs. There is a responsibility on all of us to ensure that we do all we can to keep people safe through responsible dog ownership, to ultimately reduce the risk posed to the public.”
