Beamish Museum re-opens after cold snap forced closure

Beamish Museum has re-opened today, it has confirmed, following a cold snap that saw snow, ice and sub-zero temperatures plunge the region into chaos this past week.

The museum was just yesterday (January 10) closed due to icy conditions.

The post reads: “The museum will be opening at 10.30am this morning, due to the icy conditions.

“While our staff and volunteers have been working very hard to clear the site, a build-up of ice in the main entrance car park means that parking will be restricted, please follow the advice of our car parking attendants.

“The icy conditions mean that some areas of the museum won’t be able to open today. Our Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime will be going ahead as planned in the 1950s welfare hall.

“If you’re visiting us today, we advise that you wear sturdy shoes and wrap up warm, and please follow our information and take care when walking around the museum as some areas may still be icy.

“Thanks so much for everyone’s continuing support and understanding.”

The latest forecast states that chilly temperatures are set to continue through the weekend with lows of -6C today (January 11).

The Met Office reads: “Despite often large amounts of cloud some clear spells will occur, especially later tonight, along with a widespread frost and a risk of patchy freezing frost.
