The Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) was activated by the borough council on Thursday, January 2.
The temporary response helps rough sleepers access safe accommodation including hostels and hotels.

According to Julian House, a charity providing homelessness services and outreach in Basingstoke, the protocol is called by councils when the weather hits zero degrees or lower, and when weather warnings are announced by the Met office.
Julian House says that it ‘works tirelessly’ with the council to determine which individuals need to be contacted and how many hotels need to be booked for the time period the SWEP is in place.
The charity said it also ensures outreach workers are stocked up with hats, gloves and scarves fo when individuals are out during the day.
A yellow weather warning will be in place across parts of England, including Basingstoke, Saturday, January 4 and Sunday, January 5.
The Met Office has warned that heavy snow, and some freezing rain in places, may cause some disruption over the weekend, with temperatures forecast to hit a low of -1C.

In a statement made on its X account, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council urged residents who are aware of anyone who is sleeping rough to contact Julian House, visit thestreetlink.org.uk/ or contact the council’s housing team on 01256 844844.
A spokesperson for Julian House added: “Sleeping rough increases the risk of cold-related illness and death.
“People sleeping rough are more likely to be exposed to cold, are more likely to experience significant effects from this exposure because of underlying health conditions and are less able to take preventive measures to protect themselves.”
