The plans have been submitted by the sport centre’s operator, Everyone Active, and would see ten practice bays built at the Cranes Farm Road sports centre.
According to the proposals, the new “GolfPod” would offer residents the chance to practice their skills in a “comfortable and convenient” environment.

The submission of the planning application has been welcomed by Labour’s leader of Basildon Council, Gavin Callaghan, who said: “It’s great that businesses want to invest in Basildon and see the growing leisure economy as a place to do business.
“As we move through 2025, we will see more activities available for people across the borough to enjoy in a range of locations.
“The success of the sporting village is something we are all rightly very proud of in Basildon.”

The plans, which now await a decision from council officers, include the construction of ten covered practice bays and a covered 30m by 30m “synthetic outfield” – essentially a mock golf course.
They also include details of landscaping works designed to boost the biodiversity of the area.
It is hoped the new “GolfPod” would allow golfers to “practice and play golf without the need for the vast practice space and substantial resources required for a full-sized driving range”.

In October, the Government’s Sports Minister, Stephanie Peacock, visited the centre to learn about the work done by Sport for Confidence – a group providing opportunities to those typically excluded from sports such as dance, swimming and cricket.
The Sporting Village’s inclusive approach to exercise was also celebrated by social media influencer, Jenni Pettican, who documented how the centre helped her regain a love of sport while living with chronic illness.
