Barley Homes 13-home development in Rougham, near Bury St Edmunds, granted planning consent

A 13-home housing development in Rougham, near Bury St Edmunds, has been given the go-ahead.

West Suffolk Council has granted full approval to a scheme by Barley Homes for 13 homes with public open space, parking, access, landscaping and drainage on land opposite Kingshall Farmhouse, in Kingshall Street.

Outline approval for 13 homes on the site was granted in November 2020, before the full planning application was submitted in November 2023.

The development will include a mix of two, three and four-bedroom detached and semi-detached dwellings and four affordable homes.

Rushbrooke with Rougham Parish Council had objected to the scheme on the grounds of safety, due to lack of streetlights and safe pedestrian access to local facilities.

Planning officers felt a footpath link from the development to existing public rights of way links met the planning policy requirement.

Suffolk County Council, which manages street lighting in its remit as highways authority, made no recommendation for additional lights.

Meanwhile, 26 resident representations were submitted, with concerns including: parking, pedestrian safety, highway safety, infrastructure, sustainability, flooding, noise and disruption, access and visibility.

Planners granted approval, subject to a number of conditions being met.

Barley Homes is owned by West Suffolk Council.
