The Badsey Soapbox Races are set to return in 2025 and anyone thinking about joining in the ‘fun and exhilarating’ competition is being advised to start building their soapboxes early.
Soapboxes have been rolling down Knowle Hill annually every August bank holiday since 2016 apart from a ‘covid-enforced break’ and a lack of drivers in 2024.
Many drivers who were unavailable last year have already stated their intention to return leading organisers to believe the event will come back to Badsey in 2025.
Andy Wilson, a member of the Badsey Soapbox Races Committee, said: “As I speak today (January 11) we are still planning on going head with the Badsey Soapbox Races.
“We have a meeting at the end of January but we are going to try and run it if we can and I don’t see any reason why not.
“If anyone would like to get involved I would advise them to try and get their cars together as soon as possible and not leave it until the last minute.
“We have a provisional date of August 24 which is the bank holiday, it’s not stone but it’s always worked that Sunday.
“I’m going to send an email out to everyone who has ever entered soon but I’ve already had lots of messages from people who weren’t available last year saying they would be going this year.
“We will just have to wait and see what happens.”
The Badsey Soapbox Races, held in the village since 2016, were cancelled by organisers because of a lack of drivers and concerns over safety due to low numbers of volunteers in 2024.

Speaking at the time Mr Wilson said: “It’s a shame but we are going to try and market the event more to the kart community and the vale in general and hopefully next year will be a big success.
“We’ve never cancelled but it wouldn’t have worked well.
“One guy was a bit miffed having spent the last six months tweaking his soapbox after coming second last year but he knows what goes into it and understands that our decision is the right one.”
