Children at Harewood Primary Academy, in Thornaby, worked with teachers and professional designers to update the logo, marking the start of a bright new era for the school.
And head teacher, Gareth McManus, was so impressed with the results, he decided to show his appreciation by handing out new jumpers to every pupil.
Mr McManus, who joined the school in September last year, said: “Since I arrived at Harewood Primary, it’s been obvious to me that this is a really good school. We are graded well by Ofsted, we consistently perform above the national standard, and we have a very dedicated staff team, great families, and amazing pupils.
“But we’re one of three very local schools for the area, and I noticed we were being overlooked sometimes – we needed something to put us on the map, and I thought it was high time for a new school look, starting with the badge.”
Pupils and families, alongside staff and school governors, offered ideas and feedback to Teesside designer M Media & Design, and the final decision was made via a vote for the best logo on the school’s Facebook page.
A circular design was chosen for the school – which is part of the Lingfield Education Trust – featuring a hare and a tree.

Harry Leonard, one of the school’s student councillors, said: “Our old logo was two stickmen, which had nothing to do with the school and it didn’t represent us, but the new logo shows a lot about us.
“It has a hare and tree – so Harewood – and the different colours of the leaves stand for our school values. So, it represents our school really well. I like it.”
His fellow school council member, Mussa Israr, added: “I really like the design because it stands out and it also represents our area, like all the trees we have in our area. It’s very ‘natureful’ and looks great on our new school jumpers.”
