Avon Court, in Old Sarum, has been given a rating of ‘good’ in its latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection. The care home provides support to older people living with dementia, part of Avonbourne Care Centre which also includes Bourne House, a care home for those needing assistance to maintain their independence.
The CQC rates providers as either ‘outstanding’, ‘good’, ‘requires improvement’ or ‘inadequate’ following inspections.
Avon Court is part of Avonbourne Care Centre# (Image: Google Maps) CQC inspected Avon Court after concerns raised about the management of risks for some people, and found that staff “understood and managed risks”, with managers investigating incidents “thoroughly”.
The culture of safety was also found to be “proactive and positive”, based on “openness and honesty”, alongside “a culture of continuous improvement with staff given time and resources to try new ideas”.

As part of the assessment, the resident’s relatives commented: “They saw [person] as an individual not a problem” and “They have worked with the GP to review [person’s] medicines, which has really helped.”
The inspector also found that “people knew staff and leaders well”, with one relative saying: “The staff are brilliant. The love and respect they show us is fantastic.”

Another added: “I am very happy with the new manager. They are very open and honest and it is clear the residents are their priority.”
The service is said to “value diversity” and works towards an “inclusive and fair culture”.
Home manager for Avon Court Les Johnson said: “We are delighted that our latest CQC inspection has given us a ‘good’ rating in all areas. We have a strong team who care for residents, many of whom live with advanced dementia.
“This latest rating is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone who makes our home a special place to be.”
