Plans to demolish part of a former mother and baby unit have been submitted at the Parkside Lodge site, off Stanningley Road.
The building has been empty since October 2022 having formerly been used as a mother and baby inpatient unit.
Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is now seeking to bring the building back into use by creating an 18-bed single sex Level 2 Mental Health Rehabilitation Inpatient Service.
Much of the existing building will be refurbished, but the proposed demolition works relate to a small cluster of rooms and corridors on the west side of the existing building. The area will be demolished and replaced by a wide straight corridor to form a continuation of the existing corridor, with the addition of four new bedrooms to the south side.
The applicant hopes to conclude demolitions works by the end of January 2025. Future planning applications will be submitted regarding external alterations to the building.
The application to demolish part of the existing building can be found here.
As previously reported, Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust wants new facilities to provide high-quality rehabilitation services to improve the mental health, psychological wellbeing, social inclusion and quality of life for people with complex mental health needs.
It will provide inpatient rehabilitation services for West Yorkshire men with complex psychosis and serious mental illnesses, some of whom are currently residing in independent sector hospitals potentially far from home.
