A448 Bromsgrove Highway: Man dies after concerns for welfare

West Mercia Police said they were called to reports of a concern for the welfare of a man on a bridge over the A448 Bromsgrove Highway. 

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that they had also received multiple 999 calls at around 12.30pm on Saturday (January 11). 

Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a critical care paramedic were called to the scene. 

Crews arrived to find a man in a critical condition being given CPR by bystanders. 

Medics took over resuscitation efforts and commenced advanced life support, but nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead a short time later. 

Officers closed the road for several hours whilst crews responded to the incident with the road reopening shortly after 5pm. 

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We received multiple 999 calls at around 12.30pm on Saturday, January 11 to the A448 and B4504, Redditch.

“Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a critical care paramedic responded to the scene. Crews arrived to find a man in a critical condition being given CPR by bystanders.

“The team of medics took over resuscitation efforts and commenced advanced life support on scene. Sadly, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead a short time later.”

Police have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious. 

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police added: “We received a call around 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon (January 11) with the concern for the welfare of a man on a bridge over the Bromsgrove Highway in Redditch.

“Officers arrived and sadly a man in his 40s was found deceased.

“His death is not being treated as suspicious.”
