A36: Vehicle fire at Steeple Langford bypass destroys car

At 11.42am, firefighters were called to Steeple Langford Bypass after a vehicle fire was reported. One crew from Salisbury Fire Station attended the scene.

The fire service confirmed that one vehicle was destroyed by the fire, and the fire was fully extinguished by 12.22pm.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 11:50hrs on Tuesday 31 December to an incident near Steeple Langford. We sent one double-crewed land ambulance to the scene.”

“Those affected have been contacted via text message where possible. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

Wiltshire Police added: “We responded to reports of a car on fire on the A36, Steeple Langford around 11.45am this morning.

“The car was blocking the carriageway and therefore one lane was closed in the direction of Salisbury until the car had been recovered. 

“Luckily, no one was reported injured, and no arrests were made.”

Those living in the area are warned that they may experience water pressure issues due to the use of fire hydrants to tackle the blaze.

A Wessex Water spokesperson said: “Use of fire hydrants may result in some customers in the SP3 postcode area experiencing a temporary reduction in water pressure.
