Wrexham Council’s Executive Board have backed plans to use land on Croesnewydd Road for a new 315 pupil Primary School to replace St Marys RC School in the city centre.
Previously the desire has not been just for a new school, but a site that would allow good access as well as a playing field attached.
The report that was discussed under ‘Part 2’ secrecy also states that the future use of the current St. Mary’s RC “will be evaluated for the purpose of providing Additional Learning Needs (ALN) provision”.
The ALN demand was referenced earlier during a public section of the meeting, and Wrexham.com has reported on previous questions at media briefs on the topic and local demand.
The final decisions will be ‘subject to a business case’ being put forward and reviewed.
The move is ‘to provide a much needed new school facility for St Marys RC Primary School’, and also helps the council ‘ensure sustainable use’ of the Western Gateway land to ‘benefit the Council in line with the Council plan’
The move of St Mary’s has been seriously attempted recently, with the 9 Acre site plan seeing a high profile battle complete with ‘crude blackmail’ claims, ultimately resulting in a rejection by councillors.
Plans to make the 9 Acre site a memorial park for the late Queen also appear to have stalled.
